Building Permits

A Building Permit is required for any persons, authorized agent or business wishing to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change the occupancy of a building or structure. A building permit is also required to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert, or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system or cause any such work to be done.

Please note, a PLOT or SITE PLAN is needed to apply for a building permit, for any building or structure (including detached garages, sheds, and fences) constructed on a single-family home or duplex lot. The plot plan shows where the proposed building or structure will be located on the lot so that the Town can make sure that the proposed location will follow all applicable regulations.  For an explanation of the plot plan requirements and process, click here.  To find out the setbacks required in your zone, click here. This is not intended to be a complete list. For further details, please visit the Do I Need a Permit? page.
