Mead Police arrest assault and vehicle theft suspect

May 24, 2022- On May 22 at approximately 12:08 a.m., Mead Police were called to a disturbance, assault, and vehicle theft in progress on Highland Drive in Mead. The victim reported that the alleged suspect, Matthew Erik Lowderback, assaulted them and stole their vehicle. Lowderback immediately fled the vicinity in the victim’s vehicle and eluded police on I-25.

At 11:35 p.m. on May 23, Mead officers were notified that Lowderback had returned to the area in the victim’s vehicle. Officers attempted to intercept him on the frontage road, but he refused to stop. Mead Police pursued the suspect for over an hour, until Lowderback stopped and parked in front of the victim's house. In the early hours of May 24, Lowderback was safely taken into custody and the vehicle was recovered.

Lowderback, age 33, was immediately transported to the Weld County Jail on the following charges: 2nd Degree Assault (Strangulation) F4, Harassment M, Obstruction of Telephone Service M1, Domestic Violence, 1st Degree Motor Vehicle Theft F5.
